Founded in 2007, the Elios String Quartet seeks to explore an extensive variety of well known and unusual repertoire and to collaborate with guest musicians, thereby extending their colour palette and programming options. They are joined for this concert by the flautist, Karen Batten.
What the composer Luigi Boccherini described as ‘opera piccolo’, or a ‘little work’, for flute and strings, opens this varied programme.
A Serenade by the intense, dramatic German composer Max Reger follows and the first half closes with Turina’s best-known work, the atmospheric Bullfighter’s Prayer.
A sparking Mozart quartet opens the second half and is followed by Two Threnodies by Copland and a work by his pupil Ginastera, Impressiones de la Puna. Past ConcertsSunday 19 September 2010 - Ilott Theatre, Wellington Town Hall |
