This first concert of the 2015 season is presented in collaboration with the ‘Composer Connections’ tour organised by Chamber Music New Zealand. The New Zealand String Quartet, New Zealand’s premier chamber ensemble, perform with pianist Stephen de Pledge, one of the most exciting and versatile musicians of his generation.
The programme, curated by Ross Harris, opens with selections from Bach’s Goldberg Variations, followed by Ross Harris’s Variation 25, which turns the Goldberg Variation 25 into a work for string quartet. Mozart’s enigmatic and beautiful second Prussian quartet is followed by Harris’s new Piano Quintet. The concert ends with Shostakovich’s vibrant and complex String Quartet No. 9.
Watch this video of Ross talking about the new quintet and how he curated the programme.
