Inbal Megiddo (cello) and Jian Liu (piano) are lecturers in classical performance at the New Zealand School of Music and have extensive national and international careers. They are also members of the Te Kōkī Trio.
This sonata concert is an exhibition of styles for the versatile cello – classical, romantic, modern ̶ and has some rousing melodies to finish.
It features Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Rachmaninov and Brahms, as well as an Australasian premiere of a work by American composer Laurence Sherr that was written as part of Holocaust remembrance. It concludes with de Falla and Rossini.
Laurence Sherr will give a short introduction to his work about 20 minutes before the concert starts. He will give a full preconcert talk “Remembering the Silenced Voices of Holocaust Song Creators: Weaving Songs of Resistance and Survival” at the Holocaust Centre of NZ from noon to 1 pm on 27 April.
