Sunday 11 September - Tony Chen Lin

Tony Chen Lin

Dazzling young pianist and composer Tony Chen Lin was born in China but moved to NZ when he was six. At fourteen he won the Christchurch Junior Concerto Competition and in 2007 the NZ National Concerto Competition.

Tony graduated with a Master of Music from the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in Germany in 2013. His compositions have been performed by the NZSO and other NZ orchestras.

His programme starts with Bach’s French Suite No. 5 followed by a work by Gao Ping which evokes loneliness and mystery, creating an atmosphere of magic.

A work by Tony Lin himself is followed by Bartok’s eight Improvisations on peasant songs, and a Schubert sonata in B-flat major finishes the concert.

This concert is presented in association with Chamber Music NZ.
