| Auckland Chamber Ensemble (ACE) Brass was formed in 2011 by top brass players who were determined to get world-class chamber music for brass on to the concert stage. Huw Dann, from Melbourne, is Associate Principal Trumpet in the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra; John Gluyas is music director of the Auckland City Brass Band and has played with the NZSO; Emma Richards is Principal Third Horn in the APO, and has played with Orchestra Wellington, Melbourne Symphony, and NZSO.
Their concert is a wide-ranging exploration of the brass repertoire since the Middle Ages. The 12th century Congaudeant Catholici pairs up brilliantly with John Cage’s chance piece Music for…, while the sonata by Poulenc, an established masterpiece, is set alongside other significant modern classics.
A programme that is exotic, rich, and exciting!
