Vesa-Matti Leppänen, Andrew Joyce and Diedre Irons
This acclaimed trio hardly needs an introduction. Vesa-Matti Leppänen, Concertmaster of the NZSO since 2000, also performs as a soloist and chamber musician. Andrew Joyce joined the NZSO as Principal Cellist in 2010 after a busy orchestral, chamber music and solo career in Britain. Diedre Irons was most recently Head of Classical Performance at the New Zealand School of Music before retiring in 2011 to refocus on her career as a concert pianist.
In this concert they present the early but astonishing Shostakovich Piano Trio No. 1, Rachmaninov’s last chamber work, the beautiful Sonata in G minor for cello and piano, and a Brahms masterpiece, his Piano Trio in B major.
