Popular New Zealand pianist John Chen is joined in this concert by the Singapore-based T’ang Quartet – violinists Ng Yu-Ying and Ang Check Meng, violist Lionel Tan and cellist Leslie Tan. Trained individually in London and Moscow, this group of musicians was awarded a fellowship in 1997 to work in the USA with a range of celebrated artists. The Quartet’s performances have garnered many international awards and they have performed to critical acclaim – from concerts at the Tanglewood Festival in USA and the Mexican Cervantino Music Festival to London’s Wigmore Hall and BBC Broadcasts.
In 2004, at the age of 18, John Chen became the youngest-ever winner of the prestigious Sydney International Piano Competition. Since then his career has flourished with invitations to return for performances throughout Australasia, Asia and Europe.
